Born and raised in Albany County, Bruce Robert Barker earned a B.A. in Studio Art (sculpture) from SUNY Geneseo, completed graduate study in sculpture at SUNY Albany and the University of Iowa (under the tutelage of Richard Stankiewicz and Julius Schmidt respectively), and received a MA in Education from The College of St. Rose.

 

Bruce has worked as a custom cabinetmaker/architectural woodworker, civil engineering draftsman, architectural project manager, and machine component designer with several local and international companies.  He has taught technical drawing, CAD/solid modelling, woodworking, welding, and metal casting in three area school districts. He also plays guitar and bass in various bands, plays with other musicians as often as possible and is a builder of string instruments.

 

Bruce currently resides in the hamlet of Rensselaerville and most recently has taken an interest in charcoal and pastel portraiture.
